It had to be luck.

Today is no special day. It's not my birthday, it's not our anniversary. It's just a regular stormy day in the PNW. With the holidays fast approaching, I spend most of my time prepping for travel and hefty meals. But today is different. For some reason the only thing I can think about today is my husband. My wonderful, amazing, magnificent husband. I often think about how empty my life felt without him.  How he works so hard just to make it possible for me to be a stay at home mom to our wonderful son. I know getting up at 4am to head to work is tough and how it's even more difficult to get off at 330pm, come home to a house of chaos and be bombarded by two crazy dogs, a wife and a 7 month old. He often doesn't have a moment to sit down and relax until 830pm. I know a lot of families deal with this same schedule. But not every man does it with a smile. I am so thankful to have a husband who is such an amazing father and such a wonderful spouse. He makes me laugh and smile every day. His laugh and his smile are simply intoxicating. We once heard a friend say that after their daughter was born they no longer had "nonsense conversations". I was so nervous our relationship was destined for boring adult conversations and countless nights of monotony. Luckily, we still talk about, and often argue about, which superhero would win in a fist fight and what animal we would be if given the chance to shapeshift. (if you're wondering, I'd be a pig. Blake said he would be "a bad ass bald eagle"). He is my best friend, my partner in crime and my absolute rock. I would be a mess without him. An ugly mess. He is constantly putting up with my neurotic type A personality, my daily freak outs over nothing and my occasional laziness. He can calm me down when all I can do is rip my hair out. He has the ability to make any situation a bearable one and he is always making me look on the brightside. 8 years later I wake up every morning loving him more than I did the day before.

I know this rant is likely pointless to many of our blog readers but I so deeply wanted everyone to know just how great Blake really is. He will never give himself credit for this, but in a way, I really feel like he saved me. Saved me and made my life whole. For that I will be thankful this holiday season.

  1. I hope you are happy now; I am crying. You two are forever, it is obvious. Do you know why? You put the needs of each other, your wonderful baby, and your four legged children first. You leave no room for selfishness or jealous. It isn't luck, it is hard work and you are willing to do it.

  2. I love this! Thanks for sharing! :) There are some truly good men in the world. I'm glad to know that Justin and I aren't the only ways who giggle like junior high boys and act like weirdos.
